This page explains the different textures:
Sand Texture: This is the most economical texture. This texture should have one coat of paint applied after the texture. This texture
is good for both walls and ceilings. Most people use this texture as a primer, but it doesn't hurt to prime after the
sand texture.
Orange peel or splatter texture:
This texture must be primed before or after the texture is sprayed on the drywall. This texture must
be painted also. This works great for walls and ceilings. Check with your builder if they have the primer
and paint figured in their estimate.

Knockdown Texture: This is one the
the most expensive textures. This texture must be primed and then painted a finish coat. Ask your builder what the extra cost
of this texture will be. This texture is good for ceilings and walls and looks excellent with round corner bead!
Accoustic Texture: This texture is only
for ceilings! It is also called "popcorn" texture, it comes in small, medium and large sizes.
